Is there some form of visual indicator that tells me which threads have new posts I haven't read?

as far as threads, there is supposed to be a text notification under replies, also, there will be a color indicator on all threads that have new posts. So, yes .. there will. Also, on the subscription page, it tells you which subscriptions have new posts or threads and how many.
